A very interesting thing is that, as you wrote, several Russian sources report that this follows the failure of the plan to create Wagner-related units inside the Rosgvardia, which was to carried out by Prigozhin’s son - while the official version reports that the vacancies in the Rosgvardia had been fully filled.
Numerous former Wagnerites joined in late 2023 the recruitment project in Saint Petersburg funded by the city and local construction firms in order to join units of the MoD (per sources of this recruiting organization, the overwhelming majority of those who signed a contract there were former members of PMC Wagner), especially the 810th Naval Infantry Brigade (which had to be reconstituted after the battles of summer ‘23). While others joined the numerous units of the Cossack Volunteer Assault Corps.
In recent weeks Wagner’s official channels have been massively publicizing recruitment ads to go fight in Africa - it’s possible that that will be a task led by the most hardened loyalists, of whom there are still a few hundred in Belarus.
It remains to be seen whether the amount of former Wagnerites that are going to join the units of the “Akhmat” galaxy (which is very branched and has units under the Ground Forces and others under the National Guard) will actually be 3 thousand: Kadyrov must always be taken with a few grains of salt. At the moment we know that the “Kamerton” unit of the “Akhmat Special Forces” is active, and was formed in October 2023 by 170 former Wagnerites who signed contracts with “Akhmat”. If what is reported is true, new special units may be formed to host these men, if they aren’t going to join the 78th Motorized Regiment “Sever-Akhmat”.
There has never been good blood between Wagner and Kadyrov, and there had also been disagreements between the latter and Prigozhin - Grey Zone had written long ago that the men of the 810th Naval Infantry Brigade who fought in Mariupol had criticized the Kadyrovites for choosing the easiest targets during the battle. Although Prigozhin had good words for the fighters of the Akhmat units (not to be confused with the Kadyrovites). Most members of the Akhmat units are ethnic Russians - the “Kamerton” unit itself received a visit from an Orthodox bishop and its members wear Orthodox patches.
Quite funny to note, still, that in numerous Russian Telegram channels the reactions to this news have a lot of crying and thumbs down emojis. Chechens always elicit a mixed reaction, to put it mildly.
MilitaryLand reports that the 126th TDF Brigade of the city of Odesa has moved from subordination to the Territorial Defense Forces to the Marine Corps, where will likely be reformed as a full fledged marine brigade in the future. From what I have read from some Ukrainians, there are rumors that the 124th TDF Brigade of Kherson Oblast will also have the same fate in a while.
Let’s recall that in recent months the 126th TDF Brigade has been largely involved in the actions in Krynky, on par with the four existing marine brigades. For a while already some Ukrainians jokingly called it the “39th Marine Brigade”.
Remaining in the Marine Corps, this week the 32nd Rocket Artillery Regiment was reformed as the 32nd Artillery Brigade (the second of this kind in the Marine Corps), probably as a consequence of the shortage of 220mm rockets for the MLRS with which it was equipped.
In the Ground Forces, the 120th Reconnaissance Battalion was reformed as the 120th Reconnaissance Regiment (becoming the largest such unit in the UAF), presumably receiving 1/2 additional recon battalions as well as its own tank company.
In the Special Operations Forces of the MoD, the “Ranger” Special Regiment was recently created, built on the model of the “Kraken” Special Detachment.
Yes, they are among the units that have performed combat actions inside Krynky and have been doing that since the first month of the actions, in October. In the summer they were involved in other raids, in the areas of Kozachi Laheri and of Pidstepne as well as in the islands between Olhivka and Korsunka.
I am not aware of that. I always knew that the TDF units involved in fluvial operations were trained along the rivers in Mykolaiv Oblast.
