Nov 2023 - Larelli

LiveUAMap has been completely unreliable during 2023. There’s no evidence at all that the Russians have taken Hill 240 (in that corner formed by the junction of the two rail lines), nor that they control all that territory shown as theirs north and south of Stepove. What’s known is that they control the forest belt west of the railroad, from a little north of Stepove to just south of Terrikon, while the houses on the eastern end of Stepove are grey area, where both the Russian assault groups and the Bradleys of the 47th Mech Brigade are active. I just opened their map and it shows totally made up stuff, like the Zenith base, the holiday cottages in Skotovata and the whole Donetsk Filtration Station area being controlled by the Russians, or that the latters are just outside Novokalynove and Keramik. If you don’t fancy using pro-Ukrainian map-makers I recommend you a Russian one: https://t.me/motopatriot

Despite being a staunch supporter of the “SMO”, his maps are generally geolocations-based and hence objective and reliable, and in particular around Avdiivka they overlap with pro-UA maps and almost perfectly reflect my attempt at understading the tactical situation in the sector.

Suriyak has dropped in quality in my opinion, sometimes he updates the map just on rumors from Russian Telegram channels (last example being the DFS). Apart from the great DeepState and Andrew Perpetua, for me another map-maker who deserves more notoriety is Majakovsk73 (on Twitter and Telegram); he’s pro-Ukrainian as a person and neutral as a map-maker, he relies on both geolocations and DeepState’s news and usually updates the map as he gets the geolocations. His map is very good.

I was reading yesterday about this. Apparently the process of reforming the 155th Brigade of the Pacific Fleet into the 55th Naval Infantry Division has already begun.

The five fleets (didn’t they want to form the Azov Sea Flottilla too?) will move from the control of the Military Districts to that of the Navy Command, but probably losing the formations of Coastal Defence. For example, the 14th Corps of the Arctic Fleet is expected to become a Combined Arms Army (for the Ukrainians, the Russians have just formed the 104th Artillery Brigade of the 14th Corps, which may soon be deployed to Bakhmut area), reforming the existing motorized brigades into divisions. Probably in the future a similar fate will befall the 11th Corps of the Baltic Fleet. Consider that the 22nd Corps of the Black Sea Fleet has already been embedded in the new 18th Army of the Southern Military District, while the 68th Corps in Sakhalin has always been part of the Ground Forces under the command of the Eastern Military District.

Also, according to Ukrainian sources, the splitting of the Western Military District into the Moscow and Leningrad Military Districts would be in an advanced phase. Hence the former should include the 1st and 20th Armies while the latter the 6th Army and, at the moment, the corps of Arctic and Baltic Fleets. Consequently the Northern Fleet Command should cease to exist as a separate military district. Shoigu once talked about a new corps in Karelia, who knows if it will be done.
